Sometimes its really hard to find time just for yourself, we are all busy whether its work, school, family or other commitments. But it is also really important to take time out for yourself and have moment to focus on what is important for you.
For me I find it really hard to relax, I can't get my brain to shut up sometimes or I feel like I should be doing something more important. In the past 6 months I have learnt how important it is that I actually take the time to relax. It give my body the chance to take a break, my mind a chance to slow down and just allows me for a moment to forget out everything busy happening around me. I find that if I can take at least one chance to relax during the day whether its right before bed or another time. Whether its half a day or 15 minutes taking the time to just be is important.
I find that if I actually take the time to relax I often sleep better and am able to concentrate more in lectures because my brain isn't buzzing with a million things.
Everyone has their own ways to relax, It all depends on the person.
If you a person who is really into fitness, your probably more likely to go for a run, a swim or hit the gym as a way to relax their body and mine.
If working out sounds like your worst nightmare or not a relaxing activity, then maybe a cheesy comedy or romance film will set your mind at ease, or perhaps flick through one of your favourite magazines.
Here is a list I've complied of some my favourite ways to relax. Not all of them may appeal to you but I hope you might find something they will help or at least be inspired to find your own course of relaxation.
1. Take a bath. Baths are a great way not only to relax to mind by taking 30 minutes or an hour to yourself but also great for you physical, allowing your muscles to relax after a hard day of carrying you around. Put in a bath bomb, light a candle (safely of course), put on some music or as I like to do throw on netflix, grab a magazine and just relax. Enjoy the peace. I love that you can kind of customise a bath, the smells you can have in it through bath bomb, bubble bars, oils, salts or candles. You can really make it about what you enjoy and what makes you feel relaxed.
2. Trawling through Pinterest. Whether its on your phone, laptop or other mobile device I find the motion of pinning so relaxing. Its almost like a mindless action, you can do it without a lot of effort and its also inspirational. Scrolling through Pinterest for however long I want is a way for me to relax and find fun ideas at the same time. Just choose a topic and rome free. Play some music at the same time if you want, get out of your busy brain and just pin until your heart content. Who knows you might just stumble across a tasty recipe or a make up hack that will change your life.
3. Pick up your favourite book. For me I don't purchase a lot of books and just use my library a lot. This is because I read through books FAST so there isn't a lot of point to in buying them if I'm finishing them quickly. The only time I do buy a book is when I LOVE one. If once I read it and feel as though I need to read it again, I'm going to go buy it. Rereading books is something I love doing, having favourite plot points or characters, something in the book that makes you smile. My bookshelf is my happy place. So if I need a moment to relax, I'll wander over to my bookshelf a pick a book I know makes me happy and just read a few pages or chapters, just to give me a break. Snuggle up in bed, just read for a moment and forget about everything else.
4. Find your favourite episode. Everyone has that tv show that make you feel happy or relaxed, that you don't have to think about when you watch it. For me I love throwing on an episode of Gilmore Girls, Friends or The Nanny when I need a moment to relax. I don't have to think during these shows, I can just sit back relax and laugh while enjoying Rory, Monica or Mr Sheffield. Nothing makes me feel happier or relaxed than that 30 minutes or hour of tv that I don't have to think about the assignments I have due or the fact that I haven't worked out this week yet. Life can just happen around me for a little while as I just enjoy.
These are just four ways that you could relax throughout your week so you can take time for yourself but there are so many others ways; watching your favourite YouTuber, colouring in one of those adult colouring books, going for a walk or just hanging out with your friends.
Whatever it is as long as it makes you happy, brings you peace and makes you feel relaxed. As long as you a taking a moment for yourself that is all that matters.
Is there anything on here I missed? What would you say is your favourite way to relax? I would love to know
