OMG, I cannot believe that we are officially in 2017, I mean how did this happen? I swear we were only in July two weeks ago.
This year has gone crazy fast and has been filled with plenty of ups and downs, both for me personally as well as socially and politically as well. Even though these last few months have seemed quite negative and I'm sure like me you guys are ready for a fresh start in 2017, I want to countdown my top 16 moments of 2016. Like the post I did on the top 15 of 2015, these are moments, things etc that I loved, was grateful for or want on reflect on as this new year starts.
So Away We Go!
1. I had my 21st this year and it was everything that I had dreamed of as a little girl. The venue of my dreams, surrounded by friends and family who loved me. I felt fabulous and was dressed as my favourite icon and namesake of this blog Audrey Hepburn.
2. After a suggestion from a tutor, I decided I wanted to do honours in Film, Television and Media. A decision that has now led me realise what I really want to do in life and my new pathway
3. Became extremely close to my best friend Kat, this girl is incredible and I would not know how to live without her now that she is in my life. She is the person I talk to nearly every day, who I know can give a good pep talk as well as talk to about the most random things. To quote Grey's Anatomy 'she is my person. (on a side note, I loved that at my birthday party, how amazingly all my friends from a different section of my life got on, all the puzzle pieces coming together and kat is just one of the newest and shiniest additions).
4. With said mentioned Kat, I put down a deposit for our trip to America next year. It has now become a very real thing.
5. I fell in love with Parks and Recreation. This show is incredible and I now understand why I am constantly compared to Leslie Knope.
6. I became skilled at time management and did not have to pull any late nights the day before an assignment due. Everything was timelined and completed early.
7. I successfully got through my final year of undergrad without a single meltdown or panic attack.
8. Through university, I met another one of my best friends James. Not only is he super intelligent and an amazing teacher but he is one of the kindest and most generous people I know. Through him, I have been granted access to more New Zealand theatre than I had before as well having another person to have amazing theatre conversations with. James has also been an incredible cheerleader for this blog, helping me brainstorm ideas and editing my writing when my dyslexic brain has had enough. Some of the conversation we have James are the most intelligent and thought-provoking I have ever had, and I hope it never changes.
9. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life happened. I may not agree with everything but I'm just glad it happened.
10. I created the bravest, hardest and most cathartic piece of theatre for my drama course. Not only did I face my fear of solo performance but also my stage fright, and being emotional in front of people.
11. I have become closer to mum over the past year, getting to spend so much time with her that I will treasure forever. Sometimes I like to think of ourselves as the real life Rory and Lorelai.
12. That Bloody Women happened and changed my life.
13. I received the most amazing feedback on my post-election blog post, including from a lecturer that I greatly admire who shared it with her fellow colleagues.
14. I have developed the most incredible relationships with the families that I nanny and babysit for. I truly feel a part of their families and know that I would do anything for them.
15. I am taking larger steps into finding my feminist voice and enjoying every second of discovery.
16. I created this blog and experienced the joy of sharing my writing with others.
So that's it my top 16 of 2016, it's been an incredible year :)
I would love to know what some of your highlights were and what you are most looking forward to in 2017.
Bring on the new year.
